Today, a lady with mobility issues visited FIXSTORY. She brought in a rather old MacBook that had multiple issues and was filled with quite a bit of debris inside.
The back of the MacBook had missing screws, and the CD-ROM drive was not functioning. The customer wanted us to replace the missing screws and fix the CD-ROM. However, I informed her that the cost of repairing this MacBook would exceed the price of purchasing a working used one. After thinking for a moment, she shared the story behind the MacBook.
What I saw as just a device held great emotional value for the customer. Considering the cost, I advised her not to spend unnecessary money and to go with a simple cleaning instead. We proceeded with the cleaning.

She told me that her autistic child loved this MacBook and had given it to her. Therefore, buying a different one wouldn’t have much meaning. She said she didn’t want to use another device because this MacBook held her daughter’s heartfelt emotions. Realizing the sentimental value of the MacBook, I felt a bit guilty for suggesting a replacement without understanding its significance.
